Arriving late to class cuts into the time of your instructor and your fellow classmates. Arriving to class late will be counted as a partial absence. If you miss class due to an illness, you must provide a doctor’s note. If you arrive late during a speech, please remain outside until the speaker is finished. Walking in late during the delivery of a presentation will result in 5 points deducted from your final grade. Make-Ups: Make-ups for all assignments will be dealt with individually. It is your responsibility to contact me with any with emergency situations.

Plagiarism/Academic Misconduct: Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will be reported to the Committee of Academic Misconduct. The instructor reserves the right to use appropriate software or internet resources available to test for plagiarism. All sources must be cited using either the MLA or APA style sheets. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): If you require special arrangements to execute assigned work, you must register at the Office of ACCESS (Disability Services) at MDC’s North Campus, room 6112, and identify yourself to the instructor immediately after the first class meeting. http://www. mdc. edu/main/access Grading: Activities/Participation: This portion of your grade includes in/out of class assignments, discussions, impromptu speaking exercises, quizzes, and group activities. There are no make-ups for these activities. Presentations: Each student will give three presentations.

The following characteristics will be considered in grading speeches: theory/concept application, research, delivery, other aspects discussed in lectures, your text, and in-class discussions. A style sheet will be distributed in class. Service Learning: Service Learning is a required component to this class. Critiques: Each student will receive a critique from their instructor and fellow classmates. Each critique will be constructive are meant to help you improve your communication skills. Quizzes: Quizzes will be given at the discretion of the instructor. You are expected to study your notes and be prepared for each class.
