An emergency response plan includes logistics and reporting requirements set out by an organization in the event of an emergency such as fire, accidents or riots. Emergencies include unplanned crises of various degrees that can have negative impact if not dealt with effectively. A good emergency response plan should include roles and responsibilities of different agencies, availability of response resources and process for conducting the response process. This aims at protecting the welfare of the workers and dealing with emergencies abruptly.

Public and private sectors are responsible for maintaining a good and workable emergency response plan for various important reasons. One major importance of maintaining an emergency response plan is to take care of injuries, accidents and any other emergency that can occur at the place of work. The organization should have a team with expertise in handling emergencies so as to reduce chances of loosing workers in the case of an emergency (Kasperson, 2001). Another importance of emergency response plan is to limit environmental, property damage, human injury and loss of products through emergencies.

A good strategic emergency plan ensures that an organization has a successful emergency response that leads to protection of organization and business entity. An emergency response plan is also important because it helps to reduce recovery costs and time that are associated with the incident. A thorough emergency response plan is very essential from the economic point of view. It helps an organization to reduce chances of incurring hidden costs and liabilities associated with accidents that are usually reflected in insurance policies.

An organization should have a strong emergency response plan to control emergencies at the work place. What is the importance of risk assessment? Risk assessment is the determination of qualitative and quantitative value of risk related to a certain emergency or hazard at the work place. It is a very important step necessary for purpose of protecting workers, business and to comply with provisions of law. Hazard and risk are two common terms that authorities at work place need to analyze. Hazard is defined as an actual or potential risk that can lead to an accident (Goklany, 2001).

A risk is a situation that involves exposure to hazard and it shows the possibility of unpleasant occurrence. Five steps are usually established in risk assessment process such as identification of the hazard, establishment of the parties who might be harmed, evaluation of risks, recording and implementation of findings, and reviewing of the assessment. The importance of risk management is to allow businesses or organizations identify areas at the work place that exposes employees to risks. It helps authorities to come up with strategies of mitigating emergencies or risks.

Risk assessment is a requirement of law and helps to protect employees at work place from various emergencies (Macdonald, et al, 2004). Risk assessment in an organization helps management to decide which actions are necessary in the event an emergency occurs at the work place. What is an emergency situation? Emergency situation is when concern responds to crises such as natural disasters like floods, droughts and earthquakes. This is a situation where the safety of individuals is at risk and there is need for immediate assistance.

Dealing with emergency situations is very important because it relates to control of hazards. One major aspect of dealing with emergency situations is by drawing a good plan that provides a mechanism for handling emergencies (Goklany, 2001). The plan is supposed to incorporate processes of dealing with hazards in an organization. Plans should be laid down to deal with such emergencies such as development of strong methods for dealing with emergencies. Collection of personal information is another plan that should be put in considerations.

Authorities concerned with emergency situations are supposed to plan on how to release information about emergencies. This helps to establish the number of casualties and is done through head count. The plans for dealing with emergency situations are drawn by management of the organization and every employee is supposed to have thorough knowledge in such instances (Kasperson, 2001). Plan to control such instances is necessary and helps to develop a workable environment that is free from emergencies.

Every organization is supposed to employ hazardous materials specialist to teach other workers how to handle emergencies. Hazard is another specific area that should be addressed in individual’s life and specialists should train other workers on how to administer first aid. Hazards are common at work place and homes therefore, every individual is supposed to have knowledge on how to handle such instances.
